The John Deere X Series Lawn and Garden Tractor recently received the prestigious AE50 Award from Resource: Engineering & Technology for a Sustainable World, the monthly membership publication of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE). AE50 awards are given each year to honor companies that release the best new products engineered for agriculture, food, biological, and related systems.
The 10 models of the X Series represent a whole new level of lawn and garden tractors," says Greg Weekes, group product marketing manager, riding lawn equipment. "These tractors offer productivity-boosting four-wheel drive and all-wheel-steer features like none other in their class. Power steering; a long, 54.5-inch wheelbase, and Twin Touch foot pedals make for a smooth ride and reduce operator fatigue.
Featured in the June 2003 issue of Popular Mechanics magazine, the John Deere X585 Garden Tractor received accolades for its design and performance. The magazine conducted a test of the X585, focusing on two operations: mowing and snow blowing.
Author Steve Willson noted that the mowing deck of the X585 cut everything we threw at it without stalling, and the snow blower had no trouble with 16-in.-deep powdery snow or with 4-in.-deep slush. He added, "There's no doubt that this is the best garden tractor we've ever tested. Particularly impressive was its 4wd capability."
